And We're Off.....Again!

I've yet to get a moment to catch my breath, sit down, kick back, catch up on everyone's blogs, but I just found out that today I get to tag along on a trip to San Francisco with the Cap'n. I've only ever been to CA once (San Diego) so I'm beyond excited!

During our short stint home, I've been enjoying the bounty of spring with a few early mangoes
VWaV's Curried Mango Tempeh Salad is so very scrumptious, the minute they are in season near you (i always jump the gun a bit and start picking the ripe ones up immediately every May) I highly recommend you whip this up and let it sit in the fridge overnight, give the flavors a chance to meld and devour it the next day.

I also was so excited to see tomatillos again in the grocery store. You know what this means.....a TON of salsa. yay!
we used it with some fake chik'n strips some canned vegan refried beans, guac, shredded greanleaf lettuce and organic corn tortilla shells for some killer quick tacos.

i've said it before and I'll say it again, salsa is my most favorite condiment. I love to enjoy it on a baked potato with some steamed broccoli.....come to think of it, if i can get my butt in gear and packed this morning....that's totally what i'm having for lunch!

So, I'm excited about the driving we're planning in wine country but more than a little put off by the lack of vegan wineries along the way. At least the scenery will be nice? Then I'm overwhelmed by the possibilities that lie ahead for vegan fare in San Fran, and thanks to the suggestions of the beautiful and amazing goddess Madness, we already have reservations for Millennium Sat and plans to visit some other great vegan stops along the way.

Can't wait to share! Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh you're going to love SF (I hope!). I'm a student here, and I sure do love it. If I were to reccomend anywhere it would have to be Herbivore. There's two locations, one in the mission and one on hayes and divisidero. Also, I haven't been there yet but if you want vegan ice cream there's a maggie mudd in the mission also that has lots of choices. And even tho you probably won't be doing any grocery shopping, you must visit Rainbow Grocery in the Mission. It's hands down the coolest co-op I've ever been to. The bulk section is HUGE! Have a great trip and let me know if you need any other advice.

That sounds like a fabulous trip! You will LOVE S.F. I grew up in the Bay Area and I still have such fond memories of the place, not to mention you'll be swimming in vegan options!

P.S. If you are going to be in San Jose by any chance, and don't mind a little bit of cult with your delicious vegan food, try the Vegetarian House. http://www.vegetarianhouse.us/ Best vegan fish I've ever had- 3 years later, I'm still drooling over it...

Oh fun! SF is about 1.5 hours from me, and I get up there from time to time. There's lots of vegan fun. Herbivore is a fun restaurant, Greens is lovely - including a wonderful waterfront view in the day time, and ChaYa is great! Millenium is fancy and off-the-charts good, I'm so glad you'll be going there!! I've only been once, quite recently, and I loved it. And, I agree with Teresa about Rainbow Grocery and Maggie Mudd, both worth a visit. Have fun!!

Have a blast in San Fran. I visited for the first time last fall and loved it, so wish I could live on the west coast! We ate at Cafe Gratitude while there and I really enjoyed it, my first time in a restaurant that served raw food. Plus, it always makes you smile when ordering something called "I am sensational" or "I am fabulous"! Enjoy your trip, can't wait to hear about it!

Oh man, I had mango and tempeh for dinner yesterday. I looked at that recipe and wasn’t sure I fancied it and made stir fry instead. Now I am thinking I should have tried it! Hope you have a fantastic time in SF. I’ve been once and would love to go back, it is such a cool place! My favourite thing we did there was go to Muir Woods and see the Redwood trees, it was amazing!

You're going to love SF. It's such an exciting town and if you really get the chance to travel North to some wineries, you're sure to happen upon some charming little towns - especially in Sonoma county.

I somehow never happened upon that mango recipe in VWAV. It sounds wonderful and I'm excited about trying it. It's so funny to me how you can peruse cookbooks a hundred times and some recipes just don't jump out at you. I love it when other people introduce me to new ones.
