I so wanted to title this post 'Easy as Pie'. It was an immediate association when fondly remembering this from the other day's lunch.. Pizza! A perfect food.
But, um....yeah. This was just pizza toast..not pizza pie.So Easy as Toast it is.
I just lightly toasted some organic wheat & oat bread I like to keep stashed in the freezer.
Then topped with a spoonful of Muir Glen's organic tomato sauce,
few slices of the baked seitan o' greatness,
generous helping of FYH's Mozzarella style vegan cheese*,
healthy sprinkling of oregano,
(don't forget to spritz those corners with a little olive oil!)
and into the broiler it goes until the FYH starts to bubble up a bit.
perfect fast food!
* i bought this again on a whim. I'd been craving that kind of melty, salty goodness that my former veg self knew as cheese. While I wouldn't eat cheese now if you paid me, I miss that ooey, gooey, texture and salty taste when enjoying pizza from time to time. Recently, I decided that this stuff just didn't cut it or give me the flavor or texture I wanted and stopped using it. 'm still not entirely sure what prompted my hand to spontaneously transport the little white block from the cooler to my basket, but i was at home the other day grating it on top of this lunch all the same.
This time around? It was amazing! I don't know if I'd just never gotten a fresh product (I honestly think that my local health food store doesn't move the staple items I happen to go there for half as fast as some of their other items) or what, but it was just the right flavor and melted just enough to be almost gooey and not watery in any way.
I may not use the FYH product regularly, but I think it will find it's way back into my cart on occasion as a nice treat!

That's perfect! Pizza toast! i love it. I could lick the computer screen actually.....
That looks so good! I'm new to things vegan. There's a block of "mozz" in my fridge right now just waiting for pizza later this week. Your post gave me confidence that it may just be pretty good! ;)
you've gone and done it! I want me some FYH cheez now.
it's funny...I've had hit or miss experiences with vegan cheeze as well. I never thought that it might be due to the freshness of the product. Good thinking.
I used to always make English muffin pizzas all the time, so why not toast? It's fast, easy & nutritious. Thanks for the idea!
I LOVE FYH cheese! It is the best vegan cheese I have tried so far! In fact, I am posting about it tomorrow!
I love these little toasties. I know what you mean about craving melty gooey cheese. Someone, anyone, needs to invent the perfect vegan cheese! I'm waiting!
I have fond memories of FYH- the first time I bought the cheese, I was at the actual Follow Your Heart market in L.A. What a great hippy place. =)
I feel the same way about FYH--It works wonders sometimes. I'll splurge on a block every now and then. Pizza toast? Awesome.
i have been craving pizza so badly lately but haven't the gusto to make it myself. thanks for the inspiration!
That looks so yum! I am not crazy about FYH cheese, but I haven't tried the mozzarella one... you make it look so tempting!
If you add oil to the cheese I find it melts better. Also, you have to cook it at a high temperature for a short period of time. If you allow it to cook for a long amount of time it just dehydrates. I also like adding nutritional yeast to the grated cheese and then spreading out. It helps to melt as well. Hope this might help you.
This looks SO good! It seems I have been eating pizza with FYH cheese almost every couple weeks--not the healthiest thing but so comforting and yummy! I love it!
Pizza toast looks like a yummy fast treat, we enjoy doing this from time to time. I somtimes like to put sauerkraut on top to mimic the look and salty taste of cheese. I have also used Bryanna Grogan's melty pizza cheez from time to time with much satisfaction.
Yum! Looks really good and easy too! I steer away from vegan cheeses too, but once in awhile - I SO wish there was a good one out there! I wil have to try FYH!
I found a pre-made pizza from Tofutti yesterday in the frozen section. I was starving and wanted it! I usually do not have pre-made foods, but I had to know - was this pizza any good? I will try it soon, but it's good to see your idea here and know there are alternatives to a fast vegan pizza when you're craving it!
Mmm- good idea on the baked seitan topping!
Looks delicious..
That is sooooooo good. Wow. I love the ease and the melty "cheez" - so fab. FYH has some fantastic stuff... i need to get some, especially after seeing this. I used to make little pizzas on English muffins... i'm hankerin' for one right now, thanks to this post of yours. YUM!
Pizza AND toast? I think i'm in LOVE!
